The 2017 edition of the International Women’s Day (IWD) has been celebrated in Adzopé, the capital of the Me region. This year, the International Day celebrations were held under the theme “Women’s economic empowerment for a fairer and more equitable world”. In order to mark this day, women from all strata of Ivorian society met in Adzopé on Friday, March 10th, 2017. As the institutional godmother of these celebrations, the First Lady Dominique Ouattara took advantage of this ceremony to affirm her confidence in the potential of her sisters to fight poverty and to be actors of development. To materialize this faith, the spouse of the Head of State made available to the women of the four (04) Departments of the Me, within the framework of the Support Fund for the Women of Côte d’Ivoire (FAFCI), an additional amount of 200 million CFA francs for the funding of 2,000 additional projects. This extension, in addition to the 450 million CFA francs initially granted to the women of this region, will enable 2,000 other women to undertake income-generating activities. Better. Mrs. Dominique Ouattara offered donations in kind and in cash to the women and the populations of the region. Food donations worth 100 million CFA francs were donated to the population. Donations in kind are made up of machetes, files, boots, watering cans and sprayers for rural women. In addition, she offered water containers with lids, basins and coolers to shopkeepers. Groups and cooperatives of women of the Me have received chairs, cassava pressers, motorcycles with rear carriers and food in large quantities. The wife of the Head of State also offered donations to women breeders, hairdressers and dressmakers and finally she offered 1,000 bench tables for the pupils of the primary and secondary school in the area. In addition to these donations in kind, she offered 13 million CFA francs to the populations present. The total value of these donations: 113 million CFA francs.
