The First Lady received the Deputy UnderSecretary of the United States Department of Labor

The First Lady received in audience a delegation of the Department of Labour of the United States, Monday, July 16, 2018, led by Mrs. Martha E. Newton. The delegation of the US Department of Labour is in Côte d'Ivoire to participate in the 8th annual meeting of the Child Labour Cocoa Coordinating Group(CLCCG) to take place from 17th to 19th July.

Before the meeting which will bring together repesentatives from the Labour department of the United States, Government of Ghana representatives, Government of Côte d’Ivoire representatives and the industries representatives, Mrs. Newton has come to talk with Mrs. Dominique Ouattara, First Lady of Côte d'Ivoire and President of the National Oversight Committee for Fight  against Trafficking, Exploitation and Child Labour (CNS).

For about an hour, the First Lady discussed with her distinguished guests on child labour in cocoa plantations.

"It is an honour for us to meet with Mrs. Dominique Ouattara, First Lady of Côte d'Ivoire to discuss on this important issue. For (2) days we will be working on solutions to eliminate child labour. Before we start discussions with other stakeholders, we have decided to meet the First Lady before the meeting take place. Child labor is a very important issue we need to work on "she said.

It should be noted that the 8th annual meeting of the Child Labour Cocoa Coordinating Group will focus on the following topic: " Building momentum : Accelerating good practices to combat child labour in the cocoa sectors in Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana ". The meeting is organized by Côte d’ivoire, the United States, Ghana and the cocoa and chocolate industry and will take place at Sofitel Hotel Ivoire in Cocody.
